Silesian Quartet

The Silesian String Quartet was founded by graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice in 1978. They went on to study with the most revered string quartets of the time and soon earned a place on the world’s most prominent concert stages. The quartet has since performed at festivals like the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Wien Modern; among the venues they have performed in are the prestigious Concertgebouw and the Carnegie Hall. The quartet’s repertoire spans from Polish musical treasures to the classics of the string quartet repertoire. They have performed alongside such esteemed musicians as Martin Fröst and Krystian Zimerman. In their Helsinki concert the quartet presents works by Szymanowski, Schumann, and Bacewicz. The complete recording of the String Quartets by Bacewicz earned the ensemble the 2017 Gramophone Award for best chamber music recording of the year.
